A Younger Look for the New Year

Botox: Not Just For Forehead Lines

Botox injections have long been used to treat forehead lines, particularly the ones between the eyebrows caused by frowning. These injections can create a more youthful, less lined appearance. However, Botox is far more versatile than many people are aware of. There are plenty of uses for Botox other than just treating forehead lines. Here are three alternative ways that Botox can be used in order to improve someone's appearance.

Excessive Sweating

Nothing ruins the look of an outfit more than sweat stains underneath the armpits. Unfortunately, for some people excessive sweating is a major problem. For those who suffer from excessive sweating, treatment can be difficult. If deodorant, antiperspirants, and medicine aren't working, Botox may help. Botox injections can be placed underneath the arms in order to block the chemicals that produce excessive sweating. These injections can reduce sweating underneath the arms for up to 4 to 6 months. Once the treatment has worn off, more Botox can be injected. The cost may be covered by some insurance companies. For those paying out of pocket, the cost to treat both underarms is usually around $1,000.

Misaligned Eyes

Misaligned eyes, or strabismus, is something that affects around 4 percent of the US population. In certain cases Botox can actually be injected into certain extraocular muscles in order to reduce the misalignment of the eyes. This treatment is usually effective for 3 to 4 months but can last longer over time and with multiple treatments. Patients who receive this treatment often see a reduction in vision problems, such as blurred vision, that can occur as a result of strabismus. These injections can improve both the vision and the appearance of the person being treated.

Under Eye Wrinkles

Fine lines underneath the eyes can be incredibly difficult to treat. The skin around the eyes is very delicate. Surgery may not be possible if the lines are very fine and eye cream may not be effective. For people in this position Botox injections may be the solution they are looking for. Injecting somewhere between 1 and 3 cc's of Botox can smooth out these wrinkles. These injections smooth out the existing wrinkles and make it very difficult to squint, which can aid in preventing the formation of more under eye wrinkles.

Botox injections are for more than just foreheads. People who suffer from excessive sweating and misaligned eyes can benefit greatly from these injections. Patients who have these conditions may also have part of their treatment covered by insurance. On the cosmetic end, Botox can also be used to treat under eye wrinkles.
